Former England cricket captain Claire Connor has been named the new president of the Marylebone Sports Club, which was chaired by Kumar Sangakkara.
This is the first time a woman has been elected President of the Marylebone Cricket Club.
Kumar Sangakkara was appointed as the President of the Cricket Club in 2019 and it is up to Sangakkara to nominate who will succeed him as its President.
Accordingly, at the annual general meeting of the Marylebone Cricket Club, the current President Sangakkara has nominated Claire Connor, the first Ashes cricket champion to represent England, for the post of President next year.
Her name was suggested by Sangakkara in 2020 but she was unable to start work due to the Kovid epidemic around the world.
England won their maiden Ashes in 2005 under the captaincy of Claire, who captained the England women’s cricket team.
